For over 40 years, the Beta-RAM has been the gold standard for detecting and quantifying radio-labelled metabolites in ADME and environmental fate studies, radiochemical purity checks, high activity preparative HPLC work using C14, H3 labelled compounds etc. The Beta-RAM has a built-in scintillation cocktail pump yielding the best counting efficiency plus a low-dead-volume mixing tee that facilitates sensitive counting of even low-energy beta emitters such as ³H. The Beta-RAM 6 is now available in two options: the IRIS and SC (Standard Cell). IRIS technology enables optimization of sensitivity and resolution by making a range of cell volumes available dynamically without having to change the flow cell physically for different volumes. For users who require a traditional flow cell configuration, the Standard Cell (SC) provides the option of using either liquid mixing or solid scintillator cells. Operating with a pair of matched photomultipliers in coincidence counting mode, the system gives optimum signal-to-noise sensitivity.
All parameters regarding the flow cell type and serial number are automatically identified in the Laura software for traceability. Optional ‘Active Counting Mode’ allows to monitor and adjust run conditions in real-time, dynamically applying the most appropriate settings, giving on-line detection limits previously achieved only off-line as well as improved resolution and peak definition. The optional stop flow mode allows the user to achieve superb levels of sensitivity previously unavailable with on-line counting methods. Laura™ , radio- chromatography software offers a scalable solution from standalone to enterprise level and features automatic peak finder, powerful reporting & analysis tools and an efficient document management system. Laura software works with industry-standard HPLCs and radio detector systems to provide a single point of control over the entire analysis. Mass spec compatibility is also provided through a non-return valve that can split the part of the flow to the mass spectrometer for metabolite identification.
