n6 expands adaptive amplification with the new icon16 system

Adaptive amplification continues to evolve as a key approach to improving data quality in next generation sequencing workflows. With the introduction of icon16, n6 extends its AutoNorm technology to laboratories working with lower throughput applications, enabling more flexible and scalable library preparation.

icon16 brings the same core principles as iconPCR, applying real time monitoring and adaptive control to each reaction, but in a format designed for smaller batch sizes. This allows laboratories to benefit from improved amplification consistency without the need for high throughput infrastructure.

Adaptive amplification for smaller workflows

Traditional thermocyclers apply fixed cycle numbers across all samples, often leading to uneven amplification and variability between libraries. While high throughput solutions address this at scale, many laboratories require more flexible systems that adapt to smaller experimental designs.

The icon16 system introduces per reaction adaptive amplification, adjusting each well independently to reach its optimal endpoint. This reduces over amplification, improves uniformity and minimizes the need for post PCR normalization, even in low throughput settings.

Adaptive amplification for smaller workflows

icon16 is designed to integrate into standard NGS library preparation protocols without requiring major workflow changes. Laboratories can incorporate adaptive amplification into their existing processes while benefiting from improved reproducibility and reduced hands on intervention.

The system supports a range of applications, including RNA sequencing, cfDNA analysis and other library preparation methods where amplification bias can impact downstream results.

Flexible integration into existing workflows
  • Pre‑wet the tip by aspirating and dispensing the nominal volume .
  • Aspirate again and hold the tip about 2 mm below the liquid surface for 30 s.
  • Then dispense fully.
If the liquid level drops or you see bubbles, the pipette is leaking and needs service or calibration.
Expanding access to high quality NGS data

By extending adaptive amplification to lower throughput workflows, icon16 provides a practical solution for laboratories that require precision and flexibility without scaling up to high throughput systems.
