To maximize uptime, the system is equipped with TrueCleanTM – an automated, rapid (<10 min) UV laser-based source cleaning technology which can be used to clean the extraction electrode in-situ without breaking instrument vacuum. ‘No maintenance, oil-free’ diaphragm pump and no dependence on desiccants save on costs while the HD camera allows best visibility of sample spots. Dual-polarity ion source in the MALDI-8030 allows the flexibility to analyse oligonucleotides in negative mode (main spectrum), resulting in a cleaner mass spectrum compared to positive ion mode containing adducts.
Integrated barcode reader when used with FlexiMass™-DS slides (requires AuraSolutionTM software) reduces pre-analytical misidentification errors. The single-use FlexiMass-DS disposable slides provide a convenient solution for routine or defined workflows. Alternatively, the reusable stainless steel FlexiMass-SR sample targets provide a cost-effective, longer-term solution to sample preparation.
MALDI-8030 has been used successfully in melanoma screening based on differences in extracted lipid profiles, showing the potential of this approach as a rapid biomarker screening tool. MALDI Solutions™ software features a centralized, secure Microsoft® SQL database which can be used to store everything from sample lists and acquisition Parameter Sets to acquired MALDI data.
