The microDAWN works downstream of all types of UHPLC systems for analysis of molar mass and size distributions (SEC-MALS) and derivatives such as conformational analysis. Analysis times are substantially shorter, thanks to the minimal band broadening and use of sub-2 micron size exclusion columns. For those systems equipped with a UV, RI, fluorescence or other type of concentration detector, the microDAWN accepts up to 4 analog inputs so a 3rd-party concentration signal may be used in MALS calculations of molar mass.

In conjunction with microOptilab, the revolutionary differential refractive index detector from Wyatt for UHPLC , as well as a UV detector, microDAWN permits universal concentration detection regardless of fluorophores or chromophores. Combination of UV and RI signals is utilized in ASTRA’s Conjugation Analysis algorithm to characterize binary complexes such as glycoproteins, PEGylated proteins, membrane proteins enveloped in surfactant, or block co-polymers.

Each microDAWN includes a COMET ultrasonic transducer that cleans MALS flow cells automatically by agitating the fluid and loosening particles from the glass surfaces.  The microDAWN also supports online Dynamic Light Scattering measurements, simultaneously in line with SEC-MALS through WyattQELS module which measures hydrodynamic radius of eluting macromolecules in the same flow cell as the MALS detectors under the same light source. The fully integrated module (SEC-MALS/DLS) guarantees dispersion-less correlation between molar mass, rms radius and hydrodynamic radius.
